ABOUT US
Orchard Bank is a small non-profit making housing association set up in the 1960s by Doctors Frank and Jean Haine. As local GPs, they realised that elderly people remained independent for longer if they had a good balanced lunch every day, a warm flat and some company. A small complex of eight individual apartments with a central dining room and kitchen was therefore built for people over 60, who were able to live independently. Orchard Bank has continued to maintain the vision of Frank
and Jean Haine. Their daughter Theresa, was one of the Trustees for many years. Rents are kept at an affordable level and a hot freshly-cooked meal is provided each day. The apartments are unfurnished so that residents bring their own furniture and soft furnishings. They are also, at the discretion of the Trustees, allowed to bring a well-behaved pet. The emphasis is on people continuing to live independently in their own home whilst enjoying a hot lunch in the company of others. Orchard Bank is not a care home and is unable to provide any care facilities.
